Democratic Congressman Andy Kim has won New Jersey’s Senate race, becoming the first Korean-American elected to the chamber.
Kim, a three-term congressman, defeated Republican businessman Curtis Bashaw and will replace Bob Menendez, who resigned earlier this year after his federal conviction on bribery charges.
“As a son of immigrants, a public school kid, I never could’ve imagined I’d get to serve as a US Senator,” Kim wrote in a message on X. “I promise I’ll serve with honor and integrity as a public servant for all.”
Kim served as a national security aide to the Obama administration, and gained national attention when he was spotted helping clean up the US Capitol after the January 6, 2021 insurrection.
